Residential Tanning Bed Troubleshooting

A home tanning bed makes it more convenient for a person to get that wonderful tan. But a residential tanning bed also means additional responsibility for the owner. Technology is never perfect, like the humans who use it. Therefore, the home tanning bed can be subject to various problems. Fortunately, the owner of such a tanning bed does not need to call a technician every time something goes wrong. Here is a guide that will be helpful to the owner of a residential tanning bed.

If the bed refuses to start or turn on, there can be four possible reasons:

1. Power is not supplied to the bed.

2. There is a bad relay

3. There is a loose in the relay.

4. There is a loose wire in the dial timer

The owner should inspect the plug and circuit breaker to make sure there is power to the bed. If the relay is bad then there is no other way to fix the bed but to replace the relay. As for loose wires, all the owner has to do is tighten the loose connection.

If the lamps do not light, there are five possible causes:

1. Malfunctioning lamps

2. Defective ballast

3. Bulb holder faulty

4. Defective starter

5. A loose wire in the ballast, or in the socket or terminal.

Any part of the tanning bed that is not working properly will need to be replaced by the owner. The owner should not try to fix it himself. For the loose wire, the owner can tighten the loose connection.

If the headlamps do not come on, the cause may be one of the following:

1. The bench is not connected to the hood

2. A loose wire in the connector between the bench and the top

3. Bench to canopy connector cable may be burnt

The owner must check if the bench is well connected to the hood. If not, he must correct the situation. The loose cable just needed an adjustment. But if the cable burns out, the owner needs to retrieve some power tools to be able to strip the cable and replace the connector.

If the lamps are not working right but the fans are working fine, there are only two things to check:

1. The relay

2. The wire at the terminal block or at the relay

The owner should check whether the relay is malfunctioning or not. If it doesn’t work properly, this relay needs to be replaced. Any loose wires at the terminal block or relay can be corrected by tightening the connection.

For other tanning bed problems, it is best for the owner to consult the tanning bed supplier’s technician.
