Sony VAIO VPCZ12BGX – an amazing new laptop from Sony

When you buy a Sony VAIO VPCZ12BGX, you’ll immediately start enjoying the powerful performance of an Intel Core i5-520M, the next revolution in hybrid graphics where Intelligent Auto Configuration automatically selects which power mode to use. With your new laptop, enjoying your photos and home videos has never been simpler, using the exceptionally smart and easy-to-use VAIO PMB Edition. When you use the Share My Connection technology built into your Sony VAIO VPCZ12BGX, your notebook acts as a mobile hotspot for up to 5 PCs. However, let’s see what our new laptop is capable of and “what’s under the hood”.

As with all of our reviews, we’ll start by taking a look at the central processing unit (CPU). The VAIO VPCZ12BGX comes with a very capable Intel Core i5 – 520M that runs at a speed of 2.40 GHz and can go up to 2.93 GHz using its Turbo Boost technology. The CPU is quite powerful and manages to pass all our tests with a score of 8 out of 10. Its L3 cache is a bit small, just 3 MB. The video card, an NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M with Intel HD Graphics, is quite versatile and capable with 1 GB of dedicated video RAM. It manages to generate excellent graphics (bright and clear) on a fairly small 13.1-inch monitor (LED-backlit). The maximum resolution is 1600 x 900 pixels and the video card receives a score of 9 out of 10 for its good performance.

Users will be happy to find 4GB (2GB x 2) of DDR3 RAM inside this sleek and stylish laptop. The memory runs at a speed of 1066 MHz and can be doubled in size to the maximum capacity of 8 GB of RAM. We salute this with a score of 8 out of 10. We’re also quite pleased with its 256GB (128GB + 128GB) solid-state drive (SSD). However, we would have expected 512 GB for the price of $2449.99 from the Sony VAIO VPCZ12BGX.

There are many other very cool features that come with this laptop. For example, Verizon Wireless Mobile Broadband with Share My Connection, biometric fingerprint sensor, integrated GPS, integrated MOTION EYE camera and microphone using innovative face-tracking technology, and integrated Stereo A2DP (2.1 + EDR) Bluetooth technology. Users also receive free software to help them get started. Most notable is the genuine Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, Adobe Creative Bundle for people working in design, and Microsoft Office 2010 Starter for office users.
