Are Norwalk juicers worth the money?

If you want to buy a juicer, you should buy the most popular machine on the market today, the Norwalk juicer. Even today, the Norwalk juicer is well known and works very differently from the others. However, the problem with this juicer is its price. A Norwalk juicer costs a lot more than your average electronic juicer, but is it worth the cost? Read on to find the answer to this question:

  • The process – Before you do anything else, it is important that you understand the basics of how the Norwalk juicer works. This juicer uses a two-step process that involves pushing the fruits or vegetables onto a shaft. A special pusher is used for this. Once the produce is pushed in, a chopping grinder known as a ‘vortex grinder’ grinds it into a juice. Any little pulp left over from the grinding process is filtered out and collected in a cloth bag. This cloth bag is then placed in a hydraulic press. A small knob activates this press, which exerts about 2,000 pounds of pressure and extracts the juice from it.
  • Clean up – A Norwalk juicer is fairly easy to clean because the parts used are small and easy to remove and reattach. It also helps that the cleanable parts are made of stainless steel, so you can wash them without worrying about rust. Parts to be cleaned include the juice tray, cutter, housing shaft, feed tray, pusher, grid support, grid, and filter bags. Cloth bags take a while to clean, but it’s a minor annoyance at worst.
  • Weight – This is a major drawback of the Norwalk Juicer. At around 58 pounds, this juicer is one of the heaviest on the market today. This makes it a headache to move around and is more or less a permanent fixture on your kitchen counter. However, if you plan to keep the juicer in one place, it’s not a problem.
  • Performance – The Norwalk juicer is popular due to its ability to grind even the toughest produce, so throughput is not an issue for this machine by any means. Cheap juicers under a hundred dollars can’t handle as high of an array of fruits and vegetables as the Norwalk juicer. Furthermore, this particular juicer can also handle small fruits like oranges, citrus, berries, and other juicy fruits. However, vegetables and wheatgrass can cause a bit of a problem for the juicer. This can be fixed by using the large hole screen on the juicer. The juicer also has some of the highest juice yields among its competitors due to its two-step process. Approximately half of the juice is extracted by the grinding part, while the rest is squeezed out by the hydraulic press.
  • Durability- There are several stories about Norwalk juicers being passed down from generation to generation, so durability is definitely not an issue. There are very few moving parts in the machine, so wear and tear issues are quite rare. If you use this juicer correctly, it can last for more than a few decades.
