With such a lyrical name, I expected great things from this reel. I was not disappointed in the least. The X 5500 is a great reel for the distance casts required for sea fishing. Regardless of your style of fishing, I’m sure you’ll appreciate many of the thoughtful features and functions designed into the X 5500. One thing I noticed right away is a tapered spool that facilitates high speed line casting that is the signature of an effective cast. The traveling line protector prevents tangling.
Features of the Daiwa Windcast X 5500 reel
This reel is equipped with a high-impact (HIP) line clip and has a built-in shock absorber on the pin that allows for consistent, secure line placement with every cast. Other features include AirBail, which is a hollow bail arm that helps reduce the overall weight of the actual. Another feature I appreciate is Daiwa’s TwistBuster technology which reduces line twist by means of a special collar and tapered line roller. The roller is designed to reduce line twist caused by rotor rotation. I also like the innovative and patented DIGIGEAR digital gear design that provides superior smoothness and an incredible amount of power. The CastLock system ensures precise line placement. The real one also comes with a spare spool.

Like other reels in the line, the X 5500 has a quick drag (QD) feature that allows me to operate the reel between free spool and engaged drag with less than a turn of the drag knob. The X 5500 will have 440 meters of 15-pound test line. It weighs 21.5 ounces and has a 4.9:1 recovery ratio. I feel this reel is good value for money which is 149.99 but look for it on specials especially online for as low as 114.99. This reel is in the middle of the Windcast line and has five CRBB (corrosion resistant ball bearings).
