Get Motivated to Lose Weight: 9 Steps to Stay Motivated

Have you always been finding ways to motivate yourself to lose weight? Have you been a failure in your desire to lose weight? Do you think you lack motivation in your ways? How do you consider motivation as part of the ways to lose weight? Or have you ever considered it?

In today’s era, obesity is as common as the flu, fever, and colds. Obesity is widespread throughout the world, with the type of food we eat and the type of lifestyle we choose to practice. Obesity is common among adolescents and adults, so today they are encouraged to lose weight as much as possible. It not only makes you visually pleasing but also prevents you from any obesity related disease condition. However, despite the worldwide demand for the need to lose weight, it is not so easy to achieve it. Aside from your determination, motivation is an important factor in keeping you going at times when you are about to give up. This is a form of hope and a quota for you. So even if it’s hard, as I lose weight and gain motivation, I can find different ways how to achieve it.

1) Set a goal

Your goals have to be realistic and limited in time. If not, then you will be frustrated. Goals are a great way to stay on track. Knowing what you want can help you find ways to get there. Your desire to lose weight has to be a simple goal to keep you motivated along the way. It can also be specific, such as the pounds you want to lose in a given time, clothing sizes from extra large to small, and your body mass index from beyond normal to normal. Never make yourself an impossible goal, you have to remember that.

You can also make use of a weight loss journal. A diary of what to eat, your planned exercises and positive thoughts for the day. Those things you put in your journal can be looked back on when you are down or out of light.

2) Find support

The support of people who care about you and care so much about you is the most important tool for motivation. Stay surrounded by family and friends. Tell them you want to lose weight. Make sure it’s really your fans, and not your detractors, that will help you really get motivated to lose weight.

3) The If I Do and If I Don’t

Using 2 sheets of paper, place IF I DO on one sheet on top. Now, think of all the things that can happen to you when you do ways to lose weight, like:

  • I will become physically attractive and will soon be conspicuous…
  • My friends were starting to ask me if I’ve been doing things to lose weight…
  • I’ll go buy my new small size clothes…

Now put on the other piece of paper, IF I DON’T DO IT and start to imagine the worst things that can happen to you if you don’t do a way to lose weight, such as:

  • I’ll look nasty…
  • Everyone will make fun of that because it would get on my nerves…
  • I can’t wear my prom dress anymore…
  • I will become asocial…
  • I’m going to start wearing black shirts to cover my fat…

4) Images everywhere

Try deleting an old picture of you when you were even slimmer and sexier. Find as many images as you can and place them somewhere in your room, on your mirror, cabinets, nightstands, and even as a background on your laptop or computer. With this, you will be able to help yourself move forward.

5) Reward yourself

If you have been so persistent and constant in your diet and exercise and have finally lost the desired kilos for a certain time, give yourself a reward in the form of bags, clothes, shoes, movie marathon, spa, etc. Just don’t give yourself anything that could hinder your desire to lose weight, such as food and drink.

6) Punish yourself

When you can’t lose the pounds you had on your goals and you’ve always been so bad with your diet and exercise, punish yourself in the form of TV, iPod, or computer restriction. Punishing yourself is one way that can help you realize that being lousy enough can get you nowhere.

7) Track your progress

Keep a journal with you to use to list everything you’ve accomplished over a week, months, and years. Seeing your written achievement is a great motivator. If you can see your progress correctly, keep going and you’ll keep it up, but if you see your progress going in the wrong direction, adjust your routines and review your diet if it’s enough or less.

8) Learn from others

Learning from people with weight loss success stories is also a great motivator. There really are thousands of people who have been in your situation and have lost weight. By reading their stories from the internet source, magazine or book, you can get healthy tips and advice that you can also apply to yourself to lose weight. Just keep in mind that you are different from them and the duration of weight loss may vary, but follow their advice, it will help you.

9) Do it yourself

Make sure you want to lose weight for yourself, not someone else. You have to start being happy with yourself before you can be happy with anyone else. For you to motivate yourself to lose weight, you have to really want it, for yourself, your health and your life.
