Hollywood Asks – Is Comedy Dead?

Hollywood writers and producers can’t understand why no one is interested in seeing their sitcoms on TV. Well, did it ever occur to you that some of these things aren’t so funny anymore? The movie industry’s comedy movies are also being killed at the box office. Stand up comedy is doing well, but in the new world of PC, comedy routines often turn off half the audience during any skit, add politics, and yes, you get some headlines, but comedians are divided and vanquished . What happened? No, what really happened? Is Hollywood in denial?

Remember that the audience is always right, if they don’t like it, it’s just not that good. And, ‘if and when’ they don’t like it, they sure don’t want to pay for it, or spend their precious time listening to it or watching it on TV.

Now there was an interesting article in the Wall Street Journal recently headlined; “Comedy Slump Not a Laughing Matter,” by Ben Fritz, released June 26, 2018, which read: “Last year’s biggest-selling comedy, “Girl’s Trip,” grossed $117 million in the US and Canada. The last time the year’s top-grossing sitcom grossed so little was in 1995, when ticket costs were 52% less on average.”

The article also stated: “Traditional comedies are struggling for oxygen at the box office, caught between superhero sequels that integrate laughs and a wide variety of stand-up specials, sitcoms, amateur pranks and streaming original movies.” digital like Netflix and YouTube.

What I, as a critical film writer, have noticed is that every sitcom seems to brush against PC culture and then quickly backs off and attacks the politically expedient right side of the equation. Perhaps this is because all comedy writers live and work in areas where most have leftist political views, and they assume that it’s fun for everyone, and that if someone doesn’t like jokes, then they’re ignorant or out. of contact with reality.

Perhaps it is this feedback loop that has now been labeled; the ‘Echo Chamber’ where the conformational bias occurs. In fact, it doesn’t matter what it’s called or why it’s still happening if no one in Hollywood, late-night comedy takes notice, because now that audiences have been split down the middle and every show is targeting the same half of the remaining market, no one it’s making money, and the public, yes, even the left is getting bored with it all; it’s just not funny anymore. And despite popular belief in NYC, LA, and DC, our president doesn’t dust himself with Cheetos. Just say’.
