How to clean up quickly and efficiently at the end of your lease

Your lease has come to an end and you are all packed up and ready for your move, but there is one last thing to do and that is to get your deposit back from your landlord. One of the conditions in your lease probably states that the property is to be left in a similar condition to what it was in when you first moved in, which hopefully just means you have some cleaning to do.

The best and fastest way to return a property to a condition similar to that it was in when you first moved in is to focus on the main areas the landlord is likely to inspect. To help expedite the end-of-lease cleaning process, make sure the property is reasonably vacant and stocked with your favorite all-purpose cleaner, a vacuum, broom, multi-surface disposable wipes, microfiber cloths, and trash bags, let’s get to work . Oh, I almost forgot; another thing you might need (this is optional of course) is some music to work with, i think this helps make cleaning seem less of a chore.

So, with your favorite music or radio station blaring on your head or headphones, let’s take one room at a time and start cleaning!

cobwebs and dust

Use your brush or vacuum to get rid of cobwebs, and use microfiber wipes or cloths to quickly clean radiators and other furniture that collects dust. Remember to clean fingerprints from walls, doors and other surfaces and use the trash bag to collect used wipes and any other trash you find.

vacuum or sweep

After you have started at the top of the room getting rid of cobwebs etc. now we have worked our way to the bottom where all the dust and dirt has collected and all we have to do now is just sweep or vacuum. If the facility has carpet floors that have not been professionally cleaned in a while, then this is most likely necessary and we will address this later.

Kitchen cleaning

This is one of the rooms to be closely inspected and if the appliances and furniture in this room have not been cleaned regularly during your tenancy, then prepare to sweat. However if cleaning has been maintained on a regular basis then this should be easy, all surfaces will need to be cleaned. Particular attention should be paid to the interior and exterior of kitchen cabinets, refrigerators, microwaves, and hobs (this includes the oven, extractor hood, and hood). Make sure the kitchen sink is free of limescale (use an anti-limescale cleaner or just use baking soda and vinegar as an alternative).

bathroom

This is another room that needs some extra attention, so get to work with that all-purpose cleaner, microfiber cloths, and all-purpose wipes and make sure it’s limescale-free, mildew-free, sparkling clean, and sanitized. Clean inside and outside the bathroom furniture, the bathtub, the sink, the mirrors and all other surfaces, as with the kitchen if cleaning is done regularly it should be easy and fast.

carpet floor

If the premises are carpeted, then this is a part of the end-of-lease cleaning that will require professional equipment or expert cleaning services to ensure it is done correctly. Unless you have a home steam cleaner for carpets, the only other means of cleaning your carpets yourself will be to hire a carpet cleaning machine. Alternatively, professional carpet cleaning companies and services are widely available in many cities and at reasonable prices; which means that using them will be money well spent, especially if you guarantee to get your deposit back.

Go the extra mile to strictly comply with the lease inspection

The cleaning above will usually satisfy the average homeowner who does a quick inspection, but for those strict homeowners it would be advisable to go the extra mile and clean windows (including sills and frames), baseboards, light fixtures and switches, door handles, draperies. or blinds. If all this cleaning seems like too much, call a professional end-of-lease cleaning company who can do the job for you in no time.
