How to spot a fake Gucci bag

One of the problems with Gucci bags is that, unlike Fendi, Coach and Chanel, they don’t have a serial number registration system. Therefore, it is important to become familiar with serial numbers. Serial numbers on a Gucci bag have the corresponding model number stamped on the bottom of the tag, directly above the serial number. The total number of numbers in the sequence must be between 10 and 13 numbers. The front of the label should read: Gucci, made in Italy, with the registered trademark symbol. There is a link below that provides more details.

Because Gucci is one of a limited number of designers that will sell out-of-season irregular items (defective bags) and excess inventory to their outlet stores and brokers, Gucci details may vary from bag to bag. This is similar to Trainer. When a company doesn’t have a specific model for its bags, it opens the door for counterfeiters to take advantage of the lack of uniformity. Chanel and Louis Vuitton are good examples of companies that keep their portfolios uniform.

So this means that spotting a fake Gucci often boils down to examining quality.

The fountain: This is a good place to start. Sometimes the fonts on Gucci labels may vary slightly from bag to bag, depending on the region of Europe in which they were made. But more often than not, the font will always be a powerful indicator for spotting a fake Gucci. The Gucci font should not be puffy, crooked, overly circular, undefined, or blurry. The Gucci font must be a clear, crisp print. Too circular fake font is a common mistake made by forgers.

Font Alignment: The font must also be aligned symmetrically. Both the “Gucci” and the “Made in Italy” must be perfectly centered within the label and relative to each other. The GUCCI seal must be perfectly centered on the Made in Italy, and the Made in Italy seal must be perfectly centered inside the label. Anything that looks off center is a huge red flag and strong evidence that the bag is fake.

Label sewing: The stitching that frames the label must also maintain perfect symmetry. This means that the distance from the seam line to the edge of the label must remain constant on all four sides of the label. The stitches themselves should also be consistent, down to the last stitch should be the same length on all four sides of the label. If the stitch lines are crooked or the stitches are of erratic sizes, the bag is most likely a fake Gucci.
