The advantages and disadvantages of using an induction cooker

Solar cookers are definitely the most efficient way to cook our food, as it uses a renewable energy source that is very environmentally friendly and free. However, this technology is still in its infancy, which still has a number of drawbacks and disadvantages that would make it quite difficult to use for everyday cooking in our modern society.

However, a cooking technology that is now rapidly gaining popularity may be the best option. This is known as an induction cooker. However, does it really bring more advantages to have us change our traditional cookers and electric plates immediately?

To better answer this question, we had better discuss the different advantages and disadvantages of using this pot.

Advantage

• Safety. The traditional gas stove that we have exposes us to an open flame in addition to the gas leak that can occur if the device is not used or maintained properly. As for electric ranges like those with heating coils, we are exposed to coils burning red when used. These can turn out to be safety hazards that can be easily eliminated with induction cookers. The induction cooker will only activate when it is in contact with a material that has sufficient ferrous content, so even if you put your hand on it while it is on, you will not get a response.

• No waste of heat. In gas cookers, less than half (40% to be exact) of the energy you consume is used for cooking, as opposed to induction cookers that use about 84% of the energy you consume for cooking.

• Precise heating. You can adjust the heating of the induction cooker instantly and it provides a constant and precise amount of heat.

• Esthetic. Unlike gas, the product leaves behind a by-product that can be seen around the stove area, it doesn’t have one like any other electric stove. However, the nice ceramic top and hidden cooking element make your countertop look cleaner than traditional old kitchens. Plus, it takes up less space, giving you more room to work or more storage space for your kitchen.

Disadvantages

• Ferromagnetic materials are required. You can only use cookware with ferromagnetic materials. Normal Pyrex, copper or aluminum pans cannot be used. This is due to the fact that the electromagnetic system of the cooking element is activated when it comes into contact with cooking tools made of a substantial amount of iron. However, you can always buy the induction disc to work as an adapter that allows you to use non-ferromagnetic cookware on it.

• Works with electricity. Although this is not necessarily a disadvantage, but it can be in case the power outage is widespread in your area.

• No flames. This can be a disadvantage only from the perspective of those who love to cook meals that require burning certain ingredients in open flames.

The induction cooker can have its downsides, but overall, when it comes to energy efficiency and safety, it’s a good cooker. Also, although it is a new technology, it does not cost more than your traditional kitchen and can be purchased at a reasonable price.
