One of the best habits you can have is to convey passion and enthusiasm when you speak. Words and how we pronounce them have a powerful influence on the pursuit of success in life.

Have you noticed how boring most people’s words seem to be? Often boring at best and the only time there really seems to be more emphasis is when someone is upset or in a negative place. Think about this for a moment, what are the most common responses you hear when you ask someone, “How are you?”

Here are some I hear:

“OK, I think so.”
“Not bad.”
“Do not ask”.
“Hears…”
“Penalty fee.”

Or if someone really ups the happy notch, they’re like, “I’m fine.”

Do you get excited reading those answers? How can you have language like this and expect to be totally ecstatic with your life? How can you exude passion and energy if you talk about life in this way?

I have always had a habit of using passion and energy in my words. A couple of years ago, at one of the companies I consulted with, I developed a reputation and nickname of “happy guy” courtesy of the receptionist and others in the office. The girl at the front desk talked to staff and visitors throughout the day and she heard the same responses as above; but she would always say something like “bloody awesome” or “amazing” so I became the “happy guy”.
When I was personally training for many years, I was known as the ‘cool’ guy because that’s how I answered any of these kinds of questions. This was the reputation I developed and it has followed me in every part of my life ever since. Why did people remember him? Simply because it was so different from the standard standard answers, or the language that the other 99% of people use.

So why is all this important? The language, the words, and the tone you use behind those words play a huge role in developing and maintaining the mindset and attitude of a champion. When you speak and think passionately, forcefully, and positively, it is very difficult to think negative thoughts or allow someone else’s negativity to get you down. And let’s face it, being negative is exhausting; it makes you feel horrible.

THE LANGUAGE, THE WORDS AND THE TONE YOU USE BEHIND THESE WORDS PLAY A HUGE ROLE IN DEVELOPING AND MAINTAINING THE MIND AND ATTITUDE OF A CHAMPION.

Have you ever been around someone who is just negative or complains all the time? I call them energy vampires; they just drain the life force out of you. I mean, introduce them and then run the other way, far, far away. On the other hand, what happens when you are around someone who is positive all the time and speaks with passion in their words? How you feel? More energetic? Do you usually want to spend more time with them? Do you feel encouraged and motivated? We all know the answer is “Yes”.

What if you became like those people? Not for anyone else, but for yourself first and foremost. When you use positive, passionate and uplifting language, you feel great, you feel more energized, you will tend to move faster towards your goals and dreams, people will want to be around you, they will admire you, and you will develop a reputation and identity as a positive, energetic, motivated, successful and happy person. You are on your way to becoming the best version of yourself. Tell me you wouldn’t want that kind of reputation following you around!

My challenge to you is to start putting more passion into your words. Don’t be afraid of what others will think of you. People will wonder what you’re taking and what happened to you. They may even think you joined a cult; but at the same time they will love it if they are people worth spending time with and worth keeping in your inner circle. What others think of you is not your concern, what concerns you is what you think of yourself, and how to speak to yourself and in your life. Never underestimate the power of your language. Your words and your attitude are like magnets that attract negativity or success in life.
