Travel Argentina: Visit Plaza Armenia, Buenos Aires

If you visit Buenos Aires when traveling through Argentina, you will quickly realize that this is a city made up of many pleasant squares. These pleasant squares dot the city and are perfect places to relax, read the newspaper, have a coffee and watch the world go by.

If you head to Palermo, the coolest neighborhood by far, you will realize that this area is quite different from much of the city. Things seem quieter, the crowds are more fashionable, the streets are somehow cleaner. There are several plazas in Palermo, and the one that is always recommended first when traveling in Argentina is Plaza Cortaza.

However, as nice as Plaza Cortaza is, you should not miss the opportunity to visit Plaza Armenia as well.

Visit during the week

Situated where the two streets of Armenia and Costa Rica meet, this attractive little plaza is the perfect place to visit during the week when traveling through Argentina, when all you will find are a few locals enjoying the peace and quiet.

If you are a fan of people watching, this is the ideal place to hang out and participate in this favorite pastime, as you can sit back and watch everyday Argentine life unfold in front of you.

If you don’t feel like sitting in the square itself, head to one of the bars or cafes on the edges. Many of these have rooftop terraces from which you can sit with a beer and watch the world go by.

Weekend craft market

However, head to Plaza Armenia on the weekend and things are quite different. This is a hotspot for Palermo residents, and if the sun is shining, you can bet the square will fill up with people as they all have the same idea.

Out of nowhere comes a busy market that sells homemade crafts, the atmosphere becomes more intense and you will be lucky enough to find a seat in any of the cafes, much less on one of the terraces.

Explore the area

In the immediate vicinity, you can also take a walk through Armenia to enjoy the Armenian culture of Buenos Aires. There are several Armenian restaurants, so if you’ve eaten enough steak during your stay in Buenos Aires, this could be a good antidote.

Visit Plaza Armenia

Definitely take the time to visit Plaza Armenia the next time you travel to Argentina. It is not at all sensational, but if it is a good place to enjoy seeing the locals in a pleasant and authentic environment, it is unbeatable.
