Week 1 Prediction: Bears Vs Packers at Lambeau Field

The Green Bay Packers will defeat the Chicago Bears by a score of 38-24 in the season opener tomorrow night at Lambeau Field. I don’t care that the Bears have won four of the last six games. The Bears won the last meeting in Chicago with an overtime field goal to beat the Packers 20-17. It was just one of many heartbreaking losses the Packers had a season ago.

The Bears added quarterback Jay Cutler to the roster in a highly publicized trade with the Denver Broncos. Cutler is a pretty good quarterback and will definitely help the Bears be a better football team. And for the first time in my life, the Bears have what I consider to be a good quarterback. I don’t count Jim McMahon. I know he led them to victory in the Super Bowl, but Trent Dilfer also has a ring and we all know how much he sucked at it. Cutler has a really solid arm and throws very accurately. It’s a good thing the Bears have such mediocre wide receivers. And because of that, Cutler will be somewhat limited in terms of what he can do with the offense this season.

Another factor in tomorrow night’s game is the Packers’ new 3-4 defense that looked so impressive in preseason. I consider myself a realist and I know we won’t force five turnovers a game in the regular season, but I was still very encouraged by what I saw in preseason games. Whatever happens, we will be better than last year. I hope our defense puts some pressure on Cutler tomorrow and goes home with a win.

I predict we’ll get the score up early and then give out a bunch of scores late in the game. It seems to be our unfortunate style. We have to keep our foot on the gas for 60 minutes. If we can do that, we can turn them off.
