The covered wagon is a good transport for crops. It’s no wonder why it’s a nifty structure to have on the farm. And it can be done easily too. If you have the time and inclination, you’ll just need wooden covered wagon plans and you’ll be ready to start this project.

I have a preference for using wood for this project for the simple reason that wood is easier for me to work with than other types of materials. Additionally, the wood offers a level of durability while remaining lightweight.

Well before you purchase the materials you will use for this project, you need to determine the exact size of your wagon. The amount of materials needed depends on this factor.

To get a preferable size for your wagon, you have to consider its main purpose. You need to consider things like the type of items that are frequently loaded into the wagon, as well as their quantity.

A typical wagon of this type would be 4 feet wide and 12 feet long. It is entirely up to you to decide if this dimension also suits your purposes.

Materials

There are several materials that you will need to prepare for this project. Now, the blueprint you will be using may have indicated its own bill of materials, but in general, the most common materials used for this project are: wooden beams and planks, wheels, wooden posts, iron clamps, nails, bolts, canvases, 2 axes and wood lathes.

For the wheel, you have the option to buy it or make it yourself. Since, from my own experience, the wheel seems to be the most complex part of building a wagon, I would highly suggest buying a ready-made one. Also, make sure the wheel is securely secured to the body of the wagon.

It is true that you may need to invest time and effort in this project. However, if you have very good wood covered plans to guide you through this project, you won’t have to go through any unnecessary failures. And therefore, the construction would not take much time.
