In Their homeschool world history offers a series of online courses that allow students to learn about world history from historians themselves. Each course includes a video lecture, readings, and a quiz. Students also work on a final project. The curriculum is designed for college-bound students, but high schoolers can benefit as well.
This online course offers an in-depth look at world history from a Christian perspective. It is available for free on the Saylor Academy website.
Homeschool World History Curriculum For Grades 9-12
A Charlotte Mason approach is used as students study world history and geography with The World’s Story 1 from Angela O’Dell. This is a downloadable textbook that also provides study questions and other teacher’s tools. Starts at Eight has a blog post on this resource that contains more information.
Exploring World History is a full-year homeschool world history curriculum that allows students to earn a high school credit for both history and English. The course covers the history of western civilization while integrating reading, writing assignments, and hands-on projects. Students complete beautiful World History Journals that become special keepsakes, record their study of primary source documents, write narrations, reflect upon quotations in context, and use a variety of maps to study historical events. They also read classic literature and complete writing assignments.
Each unit covers a different topic in world history, giving students the opportunity to see how these events impacted each other. Units are designed to be completed over a ten-week period, taking around six to seven hours per day for studying and completing projects. A traditional research paper is written over the first ten weeks, and students are taught to write ten other types of compositions in response to literature read.
In addition to the main textbook, this course requires a student-level book, an instructor’s guide, and supplemental teacher’s materials that include maps, timelines, and activities. Students also write a journal entry for each lesson.
A hands-on way to teach world history is through lapbooks. Lapbooking Through the Ages helps students (grades 1-6) create fun, engaging lapbooks that are related to historical themes and time periods. This resource is an excellent addition to any homeschool world history curriculum.
This free website offers video lectures and a study guide for each of their world history, geography, and government classes. Students can also take these courses for college credits through Saylor Academy, an online learning initiative.
